Marley and Me by John Grogan
Déjà vu all over again as I read about the Grogans and their wild beast of a Labrador Retriever named Marley and reminisced about my black lab coincidentally named Harley or as the neighbors and vet staff aptly dubbed him, Wild Harley. Marley eats mattresses, miscellaneous household objects and a gold necklace. Harley dismantled his dog house in one day, ripped the outside faucet from the pipe, creating a beautiful albeit expensive geyser in the backyard, and ignored the zap of his invisible fence collar to romp through the neighborhood early and often. Grogran, a real-life journalist, chronicles the life of Marley from puppyhood to his death in a warm and funny quick-read book. If you’re a dog lover (how can anyone not be?), you really ought to read this. It is sure to strike a chord and/or funny bone.
